A Tomato Review - Black Beauty

A Tomato Review - Black Beauty

I've got so much variety growing in my garden this year! I always grow a lot of tomatoes and peppers, but this year I have 6 different varieties of tomato and 7 different varieties of pepper (including one type I've been referring to as "mystery pepper" because I did not intentionally plant it, but I'm 99% sure it's shishito).

But the one variety of tomato I have been asked about is the Black Beauty tomatoes I've been growing.

From what I had read about these, people either hate them or they love them. So, naturally, I needed to find out for myself!

They were extremely easy to start from seed for me and once they started, they were the quickest to grow, the first to produce, and the first to ripen!

And, I tried it! There was nothing very special about it to me, except for the fact that it was very meaty. It was a bit tart (though not bad), a bit salty tasting, and did not have a strong tomato flavor. To me, it does not make a great slicing tomato, but I'm excited to try it in sauces!

One more note about the plants themselves, they are prolific producers and have not shown a strong susceptibility to disease. If you're looking for a meaty, dark, smoky flavored tomato, this may be the one for you!
